Are you Made for Medicine?

This spring, we are welcoming twenty-five students in 7th grade who have an interest in becoming a physician.

Applicants to Made for Medicine should be 7th grade students who are curious, creative, committed, empathic, team-oriented, and have an interest in health equity. A brief, short-response video interview is also required.

Upon acceptance, students are expected to actively participate in the Made for Medicine Program through to the completion of high school, as it is a longitudinal program. More information about the program requirements will be shared upon acceptance. 

Your application, ALONG WITH the teacher recommendation and current school transcript, MUST be completed and returned by Friday, January 16, 2025,  at 11:59 pm. Please note that you can only submit your application one time, so you need to have a copy of your transcript when you apply.

Application Frequently Asked Questions

  • Any current 7th grade student interested in becoming a physician is encouraged to apply for Made for Medicine. 

  • Twenty-five students will be accepted into Made for Medicine for the Spring 2026 cohort. 

  • Made for Medicine is looking for 7th grade students who are curious, creative, committed, empathic, team-oriented, and have an interest in health equity.  

    • January 1, 2026 – Application opens 

    • January 16, 2026 – Application closes 

    • January 19, 2026 – Final day to submit Teacher recommendation form (Teachers only). 

    • February 6, 2026 – Notifications sent to all applicants. 

    • February 10, 2026 – Virtual Orientation for Accepted students and parents. 

    • February 21 and 28, 2026 – Accepted students participate in programming  

    • March 2026 – White Coat Ceremony 

  • The complete application (i.e., short essays, teacher recommendation form, current school transcript and video interview) must be submitted by Friday, January 16, 2026 at 11:59 PM. Applications can only be submitted once, so it’s vital that applicants have a copy of their transcript available before they submit the questions. Any application submissions received on January 17, 2026 or later will not be accepted. 

    For the 2026 application cycle, a video interview is required. See the specific video interview FAQs below for more details on that application component.   

  • Providing specific details about your leadership and extracurricular experiences and how they have shaped you, thoroughly explaining your goals as a future physician, and being clear on how to solve the health issue you chose in your voice are key to having a strong application. It’s critical that the selection committee gains a sense of who you are and how you could benefit from Made for Medicine’s programming.  

  • Recommendation forms should come from a current teacher or staff member in your current building who has known you and can speak to your academic ability and potential. Please make sure that you provide their school email address as no other email type will be accepted on the application.  

  • Applicants will submit a video interview on the application via a link. Required interview questions can be found on the application. Please see the separate video interview FAQ with instructions on how to complete the video interview.  

  • A complete application consists of the following:  

    1. Complete online application (short essay questions, grades/transcripts and video uploaded) with parent/guardian signature and Application Acknowledgment signed by the applicant.  

    2. Teacher Recommendation form submitted by a current teacher in your school building.  

    A member of the Made for Medicine staff will do their best to communicate to applicants about any missing application materials. It is the student's responsibility to ensure that all materials have been submitted before the application deadline.  

  • Yes, all applicants will receive a notification from the program via email letting them know their status.  

    Please also note that attendance at the Virtual orientation, Day 1 and Phase I Day 2 are mandatory for students to participate in the White Coat Ceremony and continue participation in Phase II.

Interview Frequently Asked Questions

  • Each video submission should follow the following criteria.  

    1. Videos should be no more than three minutes. 

    2. Applicants should not share any identifiable information (i.e. Name, School, Parent/Guardian(s) names) 

    1. What are you hoping to learn or gain from participating in the Made for Medicine program?  

    2. What do you think is the biggest health issue that impacts people today? And what do you think we can do to solve this problem? 

    1. Students should prepare as they would for an in-person interview. 

    2. Choose a location free from background noise and interruptions. 

    3. Position the camera at eye level for natural eye contact.  

    4. Check lighting. Ensure their face is well-lit; avoid strong backlighting. 

    5. Speak clearly and at a steady pace.  

    6. Look at the camera, not only at the screen, when answering the prompts. 

    7. Focus on clear and concise responses. 

  • Students can use a video creation tool of their choosing for their video interview submissions. These videos must be in HTML, ZIP, MOV or MP3 video format. On the application, there is the option to upload the video as a file or a link. Please make sure that the link is accessible and can be opened for review.  

  • No. Parent(s)/Guardian(s) should not participate in the video interview. Parent(s)/Guardian(s) are encouraged to assist their student in preparing their responses but these should be in the student's voice. Parent(s)/Guardian(s) can also assist their student in editing and completing the steps required to upload the video link to the application.  

  • Video interviews can be uploaded directly to the student’s Made for Medicine online application. Please note that students can only submit their application one time so it is in the best interest of all students to record and edit their video prior to submitting their application. Should students and families have technical issues with uploading, they can contact us directly before the January 16 application deadline at mfm@columbusmedicalassociation.org and we will assist.
